Adrenaline!

'

Adrenaline is the feeling one gets when pushing the limits of the human mind and body. Do the stunts in this video represent the meaning of adrenaline? Can you classify the people in this video as any of the four categories of the rhetoric of the body; shape-shifters? superheroes? Cyborgs? Femme fetales??

What is the point of this video? Is there another message displayed in this video besides adrenaline? Is it trying to show people that if you believe in something and keep working hard at it, that one day you will accomplish it? Did the irony represented at the end of the video match the message that the director of the video was trying to convey?

  1. The people in this video definitely represent superheroes. I found it very inspiring. It shows us that no matter what the task, if you put your mind and dedication into it, you can achieve it. Nothing is impossible. I really like how they put a crash at the end, because in reality, those stunts weren't completed on the first try. There will be bumps in the road, but if you overcome the diversity and stay persistent, you can succeed.

  2. I agree with the comment above, in that I think that all of the people in this video represent superheroes. All of the people are performing stunts/actions that the average person would find difficult to impossible, and that defines them as superhumans to me. Almost all of the stunts were very high up and exceedingly dangerous, and I would probably kill myself if i attempted most of them. All of the athletes in this video trained and trained to be as good as they are, and inspires people to reach new heights, even if you fall along the way.

  3. I would have to agree on the idea of these people being considered superheroes. I see it this way because the people in the video are pushing themselves to the utmost limit and are exceeding. They are doing things that most people cannot do themselves.

  4. I of course agree with the three posts above, these people are undoubtedly superheroes. They're pushing themselves to do unthinkable things. I think they're slightly insane but whatever. It's inspiring and shows that you can really do anything that with effort. Also, the music is inspiring and empowering.

  5. They are superheroes. Yes, I agree with the comments above. But why? Because they push themselves to the limits? That quite makes sense. Because many o these activities are dangerous? That also makes sense because few people dare to do that.
I am a fan of extreme sports and outdoor sports. I like climbing both mountains and ice. But I don't like them because they are dangerous and few people dare to. I like them because they bring me fun.
Fun is an important element for fans of extreme sports while the feeling to make progress is also something that can make you crazy. Especially when a player did something that he never thought he could, that activity would bring him quite a strong sense of sanctification. Everyone like that feeling.
Adrenaline is another extreme important element. People like something cool and even too cool-dangerous for example. Activities with that feature are really attractive.
I like these superheroes, not only because their brilliant techniques, but also because of their strong spirits, and also because of their concentration on what they like as many people never try what they are interested.

  6. Even thought these people challenge the limitation of their body, but I don't think they embody the superhero.Superhero are superhero not just because they can do what other people can't do,a lot of bad guy can do what other people can do, but we don't call them superhero. Superhero should be helpful to other people and the society. I don't understand what is the social benefit of motorcycle jump,to me, it is just an entertainment and it really cost a lot of money. The driver enjoy to push his limitation, but that did not make him a superhero to me. I actually think they are kind of selfish. If they are my family, I will be worried every time they do a new challenge, have they even considered about their family's feeling?

  7. what surprises me the most is the amount of determination that these people have. in this video I've seen people repeatedly fall and they keep getting up to try it again. this type of determination and courage cannot be matched by any of us. these people definitely embody superheroes. i love how in the end of the video the creator of the video showed his capabilities as a skier. this gives us a good comparison between ordinary people who are decent at what they do but don't even come near how amazing these daredevils are. i disagree with Hanpei's statement about how pushing the limits doesn't make them superheroes. in fact i believe that because they are pushing the limits and because they keep trying when most people would give up makes them the greatest superheroes ever.

  8. I agree with Hanpei, in that I don't believe these people embody superhero, or any of the other terms we discussed, mostly because superheros should be helpful to society and people, and risking your life for thrill or personal gain doesn't appeal to me as something a superhero would do. However, I do think the purpose of the video was to project the filmed stuntmen as superheros, as an inspiration to himself and others who aspire to succeed as X-game style athletes. Falling and getting back up is admirable, and the video itself does inspire those who wish to follow a similar path whether as a hobby or career, but for those of us who have little to no interest in life threatening stunts, it doesn't really mean much of anything.

  9. I believe that the people in this video show superhero qualities because they are pushing their bodies and the constraints of gravity to the limit. There are continuous failures in the video, but just imagine how many times these athletes failed that they didn't show. These people were able to push past failure and pain to succeed things that have never been done before. A lesson of never giving up is something that anyone can take from this video, if they are into stunts like this or not.

  10. It's interesting that the editor of this video decides to first present viewers with successfully executed moves, followed by wipe outs, and then again successful executions once more. This sequencing of events is a little strange but almost seems more effective than just showing failure immediately result into success (that's very cliched and just not accurate, frankly). That just goes to show how spontaneous adrenaline rushes can be, and how they can lead us in different directions. I feel like the one's who end up landing their stunts in the end are those who have learned to harness their adrenaline and manipulate it towards their own advantages.

  11. The point of this video is to show the amazing ability of humans who are brave enough to attempt the "impossible" and determined enough to never give up. I know that if I took some of the falls that the people in this video took, for one, I would not get up as fast as they did, and two, I wouldn't retry the trick any time soon. This is why the people in this video are super heroes. They blaze the trail for all others (like the maker of the video) to follow.

  12. They are superhero without doubt. They push them selves to the limit of their physical body in these very dangerous extreme activities, which other people may not dare to try. The most impressive superhero is the one plays skateboard. His first round failed and seems injured. But, he comes back on the top of the platform in 10 minutes. He accomplished his performance. This behavior do inspire others and innovate the field they are working in.

  13. I believe that this video demostrates the characteristics of the superhero. This is due to the fact that they are puching the limits of what people are capable of. I disagree with Clare and Hanpei because I do not feel that a superhero needs to benefit all of society. Batman is considered a superhero and he stays in Gotham. These athletes are inspirational to the average person as well as their fellow athletes. Seeing someone take a risk and succeed in their endeavor is an inspirational thing. I did like how they showed the crashes because it shows that you have to get back up after something goes wrong if you are going to accomplish your goal.

  14. I also agree that everyone in this video is a superhero, for they give people someone to look up too; to admire. Morgan makes a very good point that they do not need to necessarily benefit society to be a superhero, however I feel that you are taking to assumption the idea that these athletes are not benefiting society. From the way I look at it, they are. Youth look at these guys (and girls) and think about how cool it is the things that they are doing. From this idea, I feel that these athletes are actually doing society a favor by inspiring our youth.

  15. Okay we can all agree that they demonstrate characteristics of a superhero. But are they really superheros? They do not benefit society or help society by any means. They perform daring things that ordinary people would not do. They push their body to their limit and achieve what most people dream of achieving.
But are they really changing the world? I admire them. They are setting an example to be daring. But is this what we want younger kids looking up to? It is very dangerous.

  16. I don't think the people in the video are superheroes, and it was trying to say that this is what humans can do with determination and practice. It doesn't just show them succeeding every time, it also puts in their failures and shows that things don't always go perfectly, but it paired that with the amazing results when they finally get it right. The only thing some of the people in the video might fall under is cyborg, because they use technology like bikes/skis/skateboards to do what they do.

  17. Most of people said they are superheros, but I don't think so. People think they are superhero probably they did something that other cannot do, but doing something other people cannot do does not necessarily mean they are more capable than others. For me, I think other people do not do that because other people know their real responsibility, and they know the real problem or issues still exit and need to be solved. If those player have to time to do those meaningless things, why don't they use those time to do something that are valuable and good for society and something can make them become the real superheros. They just wanted to have fun by doing so, and I cannot see any values of these extreme sports. For me, having fun is not a good thing. I just recalled that during the Halloween, our instructor taught us to disregard the students who were dressed in strange clothing and to tell them that we were dressed up to be an A student. (I am conscious I am not qualified as an A student though, crying~)

  18. I agree to Kyle. In this video, they are not superhero. They do seem superb to us. However, a superhero in my mind is defined as someone not only doing his/her best but also helping other. They may be a good example for those who want to challenge themselves but not to the society. It's not doing a good job to say practice make perfect. The better way is putting more failure example beside those success one.

However there is some message it wants to tell us. Such as" what human can do exceed your imagination. " It really stimulate my adrenaline and surprise me. I believe National Geography make this video to show the peak human body can do till now and make us feel exciting.

  19. "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth..."

I see these people as both shape shifters and superheroes. Shape shifters because they can leave their bonds, their bodies, behind them for a few seconds. Superheroes because they can show others what sort of majestic feats humans are capable of when determined. At the same time, I'm glad they added a "regular" human element with the failures segment.
